I knew when I featured this article that it would invite pushback. It wasn't however my intent to troll for dissent. It is a useful article to read if we intend to examine our own beliefs as well as those of the author. People who generally agree with me on many issues have legitimate reasons to push back. We live in tumultuous times and I do my best to examine the virtues and faults of every concept and idea and those who espouse them, including myself. Sometime I succeed.
I can see Logan's point. However, I agree with commenter Mike that Disney was crony capitalism. As far as drag shows, perhaps an age limit such as with alcohol might be appropriate to keep the young from being targeted. Of course, then they'd need to ask for photo ID and another whole set of people would get upset about that! (Kidding).
I'm all for doing the right thing. And I definitely see where the political bullying can come back to haunt us all if we continue to adopt it. But, does the higher path only work if both sides agree to quit the bullying?
We are alI in agreement about the unholy alliance between business and government I think. (In this case Disney, no matter who is to blame or everyone is to blame) So I'm not certain why it's being discussed. In my view it's not what the article is about. I never saw Logan address that aspect. And policies to combat the problems of drag shows and the like are not what the article is about either. So now I ask the big question, the fundamental question if you will, that I should have asked to begin with. It is merely this; if Disney had a policy of supporting the legislation in question, and actively supported the governors agenda, would the same thing have happened? It's a question to ask ourselves. I'm not asking anyone to answer.
Yikes! Using the badge of Libertarian virtue signaling to attack Gov. Desantis' policies is not accurate. Because my understanding of "Fundamental Things" is that it's concept is based on the simple formula that fundamental=brevity. this will be as brief as my simple mind can manage. So, lets proceed.
The Disney deal was the product of of Crony Capitalism of the highest order. One of many facets of this was that Disney was a very generous donor to both major Florida Political Parties. Of course the Disney donations to the Republican Party of Florida are gone, done, kaput. Gov. Desantis knew this would happen, but he also knows that some principles are more important than money (and yes, for politician this seems to be unbelievable, but that is something that shows our Governor's honor. )
The examples cited by the Author all point to the concept that a certain segment of our society believes that indoctrinating very young children into the world of alternate, non traditional sexual deviance is desirable and that any attempts to limit the exposure of young children to this dark world are acts of bullying. Many citizens of Florida do not agree. Alternately they think that using political leverage and legislative initiatives to prevent this sort of indoctrination is expected of our elected officials.
Pages and pages can be written to furnish back up for my statements about the Disney privileges, but I'm trying to be fundamental. So let;s agree that adults can do whatever they wish as long as the leave young children alone and protect their innocence.
By the way, for the definition of bullying, especially political, see "Merrit Garland", "FBI", "Hillary Clinton" and "James Comey" Cheers!
Thanks for your comments Mike! They are always welcome. For the record, I'm a fan of Desantis in general. I'll be more convinced that he isn't engaging in bullying in this instance when I witness him using similar tactics against companies that back his party and his policies. IMO, The Disney deal should never have been done no matter who was involved. Also, I am no fan of the Disney Co or any other woke companies. I would also opine that the article is not about indoctrination of children, even as I agree wholeheartedly that that indoctrination is evil and should be opposed. To conclude, In my mind, no politicians are above being called out by whomever feels the urge to call them out. Even those I agree with. And again, I agree with Desantis' actions since he became Governor. It's just that he's as imperfect as I am, or Logan Albright is, for that matter. Again, thanks for your thoughts, they have great value to my newsletter.
Thank-you Grant! Two quick things. First, I was fortunate and able to meet and get to know Ron and Casey before his first Congressional campaign. He is genuine and steadfast in his in defending his "originalist" Constitutional beliefs. Second, this is an election year. I will not criticize the Governor in any way until after November 8th! One other quick insider tidbit......never, ever challenge Ron Desantis with baseball trivia. The man is a self-propelled Major League Baseball Encyclopedia!
