Stopping people from coming into the US illegally is pretty simple if the will to do so is actually there. It would only take congress enacting two laws to slow the influx dramatically and permanently.
Anyone caught coming here illegally, either at the border or subsequently, would be permanently barred from ever becoming a citizen.
Anyone caught coming here illegally would be permanently barred from receiving government assistance programs, federal or local, except those who require humanitarian aid be given as they are processed out of the country to their place of origin. Such expulsion shall at the first possible opportunity.
Of course those laws should be written without loopholes by congress, not by me. And they should be written in close to the number of words as this post.
The vast majority of any future influx would be solved. That’s my suggestion and I haven’t seen anyone else suggesting it. But I’d be happy to be corrected on that with a list of the people who have. In fact I’d be delighted to discover that it’s a wildly popular idea and I’m just totally out of touch. It’s so totally fundamental and obvious that it’s amazing that it’s not being pushed by tons of brilliant talking heads.
Either way, let me know as you feel led.
PS. Just for the record, I’m in favor of immigration. I’m also in favor of immigration reform and also in favor of a rational system of asylum to take in those truly in danger.
I'm in favor of a wall, human border patrol, and electronic surveillance to keep our borders secure. I'm a huge fan of legal immigration - not illegal immigration or the numerous NGOs coaching illegals on how to claim 'asylum'. (Stay and fix your own country.) I do like your proposals and hope they are put to a vote in Congress!
