Fear of Flying?
Irrational fears or rational concerns?
This morning I was reading a piece on the news/opinion platform "The Free Press."
Oddly, the one thing that stuck with me while perusing the long commentary (about seemingly everything) by someone named Nellie Bowes was this blurb about Boeing's "problems" with the planes they manufacture.
The rest of her article was momentarily interesting (and fairly counter to most of my sensibilities) but will probably be forgotten by breakfast.
I don't fly much but I’ve always been a bit wary of the safety of the aircraft, despite the overwhelming evidence that shows it to be way safer than any other mode of long distance travel.
So being a fundamental guy with a simple mind, I was struck by this part:
"an employee outfitted with a hidden camera chitchatted with mechanics and inspectors about the planes they were producing.” Asked if they would fly the 787 Dreamliner, one Boeing worker said on hidden camera: “I probably would, but I have kind of a death wish, too.”
Oops! That wasn't helpful for my irrational flying concerns.
Too true. While some at BA deny it, I've heard a few claim that the 'culture' that many of those hired needed to be hired on more than just merit and qualifications.
